Project Highlights
Minnesota River Bridge
MnDOT in partnership with Dakota County, Hennepin County, City of Bloomington and the City of Burnsville are developing a project to replace the bridge and pavement on I-35W between Cliff Rd. and 106th St. This will raise I-35W out of the floodplain and improve pedestrian access across the river. PE Services, in partnership with MnDOT is providing specialty testing services for analyzing foundation and ground stability issues. The primary need for this project is to provide a structurally sound bridge crossing over the Minnesota River within the I-35W corridor. The existing structure was constructed in 1957 and after 60 years is reaching the end of its useful life. The replacement of the 1,362 foot bridge includes keeping 6 lanes of traffic open and safe during construction. With work scheduled to being in 2018, PE Services will work intermittently throughout the 4-year project testing and analyzing results.
The new bridge is a five span steel girder structure. In dealing with the challenge of working over the soft soils of the river, PE Services played an important role in ensuring the compaction and test results provided embankment stability and overall success. The use of expert materials inspection and testing services allows MnDOT’s team to ensure value in long-term stability of their projects. PE Services team joins the team as professionals to test, report and guide the process for long-term quality work.
