Getting to Know Jake Samuelson

Q: How long have you been with the company?

A: I have worked for PE Services for five and a half very quick years.

Q: What does your job entail?

A: My main job requirements, as a Construction Inspector, are to observe the work being performed to see if it is being constructed per the project plans and specifications. Most of my day involves documenting daily activities, issues that arise, equipment and labor onsite, through daily work reports and photos. These reports are key to creating a useful record that can be looked at down the road if issues arise. I also assist with contract administration tasks and materials testing.

Q: In terms of successes, which accomplishments are you most proud of?

A: The TH14 Design-Build project in 2020 and 2021 was the first design-build project I was on. My role was to perform observation work for the structures side of the project and support the lead structures inspector. I had made a good impression with the Owner and other verification team members, so when there was a staffing change and the lead inspector left to work on a different project after the first year, I was asked to step into the lead structures inspector role. Becoming the lead field person was new territory for me. I was able to excel in that role and it helped confirm that I was in the right line of work.

Q: What are the toughest challenges you’ve had at work?

A: The toughest challenge I have had at work was going through the claims process and a deposition for a project I had previously worked on. The deposition was 3 years after I had finished my role on the project. Trying to remember the day-to-day details was tough and being questioned by lawyers while trying to justify what we did was a unique challenge.

Q: How have you grown professionally while on our team?

A: I have been able to grow professionally as an inspector and have expanded my service offerings into P6 scheduling and schedule review thanks to the support of the PE Services leadership team.

Q: What’s a passion you have outside of work?

A: All things Minnesota Wild. The whole family loves watching and going to games and playing hockey inside and on the outdoor rink in the backyard with my kids.
