Getting to Know Andy McDermott, Director of Marketing

How long have you been at PE Services and what does your role entail?

I started working at PE Services in December 2023, so I’ve just reached six months! I was brought on board as PE Services’ new Marketing Director because the company has been expanding its services and experiencing significant growth over the last few years. In my role, my efforts are focused on branding, marketing, communications and business development.

What made you decide to work at PE Services over other firms?

I was looking for a new job and was introduced to the leadership team through a professional contact. We had immediate chemistry and synergy, and I was immediately impressed with the work the company was doing. It was exciting to me that PE Services had a role in most of the major heavy civil construction projects in the state.

What is your favorite aspect of your job?

I have been doing marketing work for architecture firms for over 20 years. I am loving the shift to the engineering and construction world. Every day is a learning experience and I really like the people I am working with.

What has been your favorite project and why?

I love that my role allows me to work on a wide variety of projects. I get use both sides of my brain. I get to be creative and strategic. And I get to work with really great teams.

I am happiest when….

I am on a hike with my little dog, Buddy.

Any podcasts you think others should know about?

It sadly ended in 2023 but you can binge eight seasons of “Heavyweight” with Jonathan Goldstein. He talks to people that have unfinished business or regrets from the past (heavy weights, get it?) and he digs into their stories with them. He uses compassion, some meddling, and a lot of good humor to help them resolve their issues (or not.)

What is your biggest pet peeve?

I think plastic sporks that are wrapped in plastic are completely, absolutely useless and a waste of time, materials, and energy. They actually make me really angry. I have to stop thinking about them right now.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Nicollet Avenue Pothole from Sebastian Joe’s.
