Getting to Know Taylor Engstrom, Senior Environmental Scientist

How long have you been at PE Services and what does your role entail?

I have been at PE Services for about 10 months and am in the environmental health and safety division. The majority of the work I do is ensuring the construction projects we are working on are being compliant with their various environmental requirements. This is done by on-site inspections, project documentation, and plan reviews. I also assist in various environmental permitting needs and erosion and sediment control trainings.

What made you decide to work at PE Services over other firms?

I decided to work at PE Services because I saw opportunities for professional development along with support as I continue in my career. The culture and family approach to business was another draw to PES. The emphasis on the benefits and importance of having a work/life balance in an industry that can be overwhelming at times was also important in my final decision to work at PE Services.  

What is your favorite aspect of your job? 

My favorite part of my job is the variety in my work on a weekly basis. I get to work outside and inside, be involved in different of projects, and encounter new things that challenge me to be better both personally and professionally.

What has been your favorite project and why? 

I have enjoyed working on the Metro Gold Line bus rapid transit project this year. It is a large and busy project with a variety of work that requires environmental oversite and coordination with the contractor and various stakeholders. It is sometimes challenging, but I continue to learn a lot and gain experience.

I am happiest when…. 

I get to be outside (when it’s warm) taking my dog out for walk, gardening, etc. I am also happiest when I get to spend time with close family and friends.  

Describe your perfect vacation.  

Any vacation where I can be by the ocean is usually pretty perfect to me. Getting to go on a vacation with members of my family and friends and making new memories is always great.

What would you tell a newcomer to PE Services? 

I would tell a newcomer to PE Services that they made a great choice in deciding to work here! In the time I have been at PES I have been surrounded by great coworkers and have been fully welcomed into a great new working community. I am excited for the future of the company.
